Investing in the future generations by providing educational facilities at the grass-root level

In 1979, when we laid the foundation of LHP in Solapur, a relatively underdeveloped area of Maharashtra, we were committed to generating employment for the local youth and uplifting our surroundings, in whatever way we could. Today, we are generating employment, directly and indirectly, for a few thousand families in and around Solapur.

As a part of our mission of social upliftment, we recently constructed a new building for a Zilla Parishad School in the nearby village of Ranmasle in Solapur district. The story behind this project is interesting.

When our Managing Director, Mr. Sharadkrishna Thakre, learned about the condition of the Zilla Parishad School in Ranmasle, a small village near Solapur, he realized the need for intervention. Not only was the building dilapidated, but the number of students was also decreasing day by day, raising concerns about the school potentially closing someday due to insufficient enrollment. Coming from a rural background and having studied in a ZP School himself, our Managing Director understands well the crucial role a good school plays in the future of a child.

The next day, the LHP team was in the village and liaised with school, village panchayat and other stakeholders. Working with our usual style, the team went into a ‘mission mode’, and the new, spacious school building was ready in just 7 months, equipped with good quality amenities and educational facilities, and funded entirely by LHP through its CSR corpus fund.

We are proud to mention that even the minutest detail of the mission was looked into by our Managing Director himself, sometimes, even by stretching himself. He had the vision that he was not donating a school building but investing in the future of India and making a small difference to the society. By providing the right environment conducive for education, he was nurturing future generations. The new school building is equipped with various facilities and provides safety to children. They are proud of their school, which is now at par with the schools in the cities.

The new school building was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Manisha Awhale, (IAS), CEO, ZP, Solapur in the presence of Dr. N. K. Thakre, First Chancellor, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon and Mr. Sanjay Awate, Senior Editor, Lokmat, Pune.
